Data Centre Move

We are pleased to announce that the move to Maidenhead Data Centre last night was successful. All Q-Power dot Biz clients will now benefit from being hosted in one of the highest specification data centres in the UK.

Benefits of move

The move to Maidenhead is very exciting because it will allow us to bring great benefits to our clients. The most significant change compared with hosting in our old data centre in London is that it is four times better than the average Docklands site, and more than twice the specification of the best TelecityRedbus site.

The servers are hosted on a self-contained data floor and there is strict control over security access which means there are no unauthorised third parties allowed to do cabling or other potentially disruptive works. This gives the maximum protection for the data environment and our clients.

Unlike the London Docklands site there is digitally recorded CCTV on every aisle and an exterior perimeter security fence with staff who monitor the CCTV 24/7, providing significantly improved security.

Network/IP Addresses

There are currently two dedicated 10 gigabit DWDM links, running over fibre directly between London and Maidenhead. The DWDM means this can be upgraded in the future, as needs arrive. The two links from Maidenhead run to two different core sites in London, and take entirely separate physical routes in the public highway to protect against failure. The network is entirely redundant, and there is less than a thousandth of a second of latency to the London Internet Exchange (LINX).  The network experience will be in fact improved in redundancy and capacity.
